6 Tips For Using ChatGPT Successfully

You’re still trying to market and get your business out there but you’re also nervous…

I get it the economy has taken a bit of a dive and you’re probably feeling the pressure to do more with less. You feel you have to market more but with fewer resources and you’re not ready to make the leap into bringing on some extra help. That’s ok because this month I’m committed to showing up and giving you all the tools you’ll need to tackle some of the busy parts of marketing on your own.

It’s creative solutions month - it’s my theme this month! To kick off creative solutions let’s talk about ChatGPT.

You’ve heard about it surely, and you might have even used it. You’re probably reading the pros and cons from concerned folks to those who are excited about the future of AI.

You and me, we’re in the same bucket - we’re small businesses and we just need to get sh*t done. So here’s the short of my 2cents:

Use it sparingly to help you build on your momentum but it will never replace your expertise, that which comes from experience and your unique perspective. It will never replace connection or human emotion but it’s a great tool to help you get ahead and for FREE.  Here’s how to use ChatGPT...

1) Call out the tone.

Maybe it’s humor you’re going for or maybe it’s a fun upbeat tone whatever the case is by calling out the tone you want to use you’re helping the AI to frame content closer to your natural tone which your customer is accustomed to. In short, it will sound more like you…as close as a robot can get that is.

2. Call out the distribution Channel

Tell AI what you’re writing and where it’s going. There’s a huge difference between writing a caption for Instagram VS a website paragraph. Not just in the length but in the general structure of the written content. People don’t read Instagram captions the same way they read website information. Tell ChatGPT to “write an Instagram caption about…” and maybe a “please” and “thank you” thrown in there. After all, AI or not, we should still be polite, right?

3. Help it learn

Help it learn by continuing to add to your original command you help CHAT GPT build better outputs based on your inputs. This is what happens when we ask ChatGPT to add “potato” to the caption…

4. Add keywords.

Give it a little detail! The more you give it the more it gives you! Keywords important to your message will not always populate, ChatGPT might be amazing but it doesn’t read minds. You have to train it by adding relevant keywords to your command. Simply ask ChatGPT to add keywords and watch it rewrite your command!

5. Who are you writing it for?

Like anything in marketing, you need to know your audience, tell ChatGPT who you’re writing for and let it address that person! In this case, I also had to remind it not to forget about my Potato who is an obvious key part of this story. No one said it’s perfect but it’s pretty amazing so far, right?!

6. Set the scene

Giving AI some indication of why you’re writing the content can also change the content output. As we tested our theories of improving outputs on ChatGPT we noticed that in some instances by giving the AI some indirect suggestions as to why the content was being written, the output was more relevant to our use case!

With these 6 tips, you can feel more confident about leaning into CHAT GPT to write for you but don’t forget to review revise, and fact-check your outputs. AI does not replace human understanding of one another. The short of it is you’re not replacing the need for a human here but you can become a creative director for AI to help you buy time to spend on things that AI can’t do…truly connecting with your audience.

Here’s an easter-egg for you! If you read the screenshots, you’ll notice ChatGPT forgot to add my keyword “fashionista” at the same time it forgot about my extra detail of the potato. I asked it to remember. Here’s the final outcome….

As I said, it’s not perfect but with a little training, you can help it become a useful creative solution in your marketing arsenal.

Also if this is your grandma, I’d love to meet her. The end.
