Sharing Secrets on Social Media

We all have secrets, and sometimes we choose to share those secrets with others. But did you know that sharing your secrets on social media, yes, for the whole world to see, can actually be beneficial for you?

When we were kids, we used to bond with each other when we would get all close together with our friends and whisper our secrets into each other’s ears. Sharing your secrets on social media can do the same thing; it will help you bond with others and create stronger relationships.

Do you really want to bond with your clients and customers? If so, you need to start sharing your secrets on social media. As a society, but also as humans, we crave social connections. This is ironic, considering we are currently living through a time when we are the most unconnected, even if we have been tricked into thinking we are more connected than ever through social media. As remote working and learning are gaining more and more popularity, many only gain connections with others through a screen. While we may comment on others’ posts consistently and feel as though we truly know them, most of the time, this is not the case. A lot of social media is fake; as a general rule, we only put out the good in our lives on social media. However, being open and honest and sharing the things you’d rather keep a secret is what will truly give you the connections that we all crave so much.

Now, I’m not telling you to go out and share your deepest, darkest secret with the world; that's just crazy. But I am telling you to let people in a little more and help your followers feel as if they really know you and your brand. This could be showing people relatable content, like procrastinating your work, coming across obstacles when creating your product, or even the setbacks you’ve faced in general getting your brand out there. Most people and brands want to pretend that everything is perfect all the time and keep any mistakes, obstacles, or setbacks a secret, but this is just not realistic.

Secrets don’t have to be a bad thing. We’ve established that great secrets to share can be things like setbacks or obstacles, but there are other kinds of secrets to share that can benefit you. Let your clients and customers in on secrets about your brand. Show them that while a product may be intended for one thing, it can be used for another. You can also show them how to get the most out of what they have received from you. To them, it feels as though you are letting them in on a big secret and that you truly care for them. When for you, you are just giving people tips about the service or product that you care so much for. Let’s be real; the company itself will always know more about the service or product than the clients and customers. So put that knowledge to good use and let people in on the secrets!

At the end of the day, we are all human, and it can feel very isolating to think that we are the only ones going through the troubles of being one. So, if you want your clients and customers to truly feel connected to you and your brand, you need to show them that we are not all that different, even if you'd rather keep it a secret. Plus, we feel trusted and respected when we share our secrets, so even if something is just a little tip about your service and brand to you, it can really work well as a secret to share with your followers. We can only really control so much of our lives, and one of those things is what we choose to share with the world. So be mindful of how what you share can actually benefit you when you go to make a post. Yes, we may all have secrets, but they do not have to be a bad thing, and sharing them can really benefit you and your brand. So go out and share those secrets!
